Palermo Historic Centre: Teatro Massimo to the Cathedral
Palermo, Italy
Palermo is a city shaped by Arab, Norman, and later Spanish Baroque influences, all layered into one remarkable historic center. This walk moves from Teatro Massimo and San Domenico through the Vucciria market to the golden domes of La Martorana and San Cataldo, the muqarnas ceiling of the Cappella Palatina, and the cathedral where Norman kings rest in porphyry. Along the way, you’ll see the Arab-Norman fusion that earned nine monuments UNESCO World Heritage status and hear echoes of Palermo’s enduring market life.
